Diane Gould became President and CEO of Family Continuity on January 1, 2023, at the beginning of the agency’s affiliation with Advocates. She joined Advocates in 1985 and has served as President and CEO since 2013. In a career spanning over forty years, she has held many clinical and leadership roles and directed a broad range of services promoting empowerment, inclusion, and health equity.
Central to Diane’s approach to leadership is a commitment to collaboration and partnership with employees, funders, and communities as an essential way to advance the agency’s mission.
In the broader community, Diane is an active board member of the Massachusetts Providers Council, Association of Behavioral Healthcare, and several other industry advocacy organizations. Throughout her career, Diane has worked to build diverse, inclusive community coalitions that address behavioral health and social service needs. Diane’s several community recognitions include the 2011 Deborah Blumer Community Health Leader Award from the MetroWest Health Foundation, the 2015 MassPRA Public Advocacy Award, and The Providers’ Council's 2020 CEO Award and 2022 Chair’s Award. Diane’s leadership has resulted in Advocates being selected one of the Top 100 Women Led Businesses, and Top 100 Places to Work in Massachusetts by the Boston Globe.
Diane holds a Master of Social Work degree from Simmons College, and the values of the social work profession continue to inform her vision and leadership. Previously, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts with a concentration in English and Women’s Studies.
Every day, our staff works to change the lives of hundreds of families and individuals throughout Massachusetts. Family Continuity employs nearly 300 staff professionals with many years of experience in the field and numerous specific areas of expertise. In many cases, this experience includes teaching and public speaking to professionals and the general public as well. In an effort to promote our values: family, community, change, and especially advocacy and leadership, we have initiated a Speakers Bureau to go one step beyond our day-to-day role of providing social and clinical services, to create a forum for public education and advocacy.
The Speakers Bureau offers Family Continuity's breadth of experience to other professionals, schools, parents, students, community groups and others on a wide variety of important topics related to social, educational and mental health services. This service is available to the community at no cost and is limited only by the availability of people with the best match of skills and experience to meet the request.

Family Continuity is a private, non-profit mental health and social services agency supporting Eastern and Central Massachusetts from hub offices in Peabody, Lawrence, Whitinsville, Worcester, Plymouth, and Hyannis for more than 30 years.
The agency was founded in 1985 to provide individuals with community-based resources that reduced the need for institutional care. As a pioneer of this movement, Family Continuity’s behavioral health services approach every relationship from a place of respect and the deeply held belief that we all hold the keys to our own personal success.
Our mission statement is: “Inspiring individuals and families to achieve overall wellness through counseling, support, education, and making connections to community."
Our 36 program portfolio provides a spectrum of emotional, developmental, and behavioral programs for children, adolescents, adults, couples, families and seniors. Our services encompass community and home-based services as well as outpatient clinics that provide evidence-based, best practice therapies for individuals and families. Our treatment philosophy begins with meeting an individual’s basic needs and creates a collaborative partnership between client and clinician.
In 2014, Family Continuity experienced an administration change which has brought about new growth and potential for our organization. Over the past two years, we have been expanding and growing our services to more fully achieve the above vision. Innovative programs such as our Integrated Care Service, that connects FCP clinicians with medical offices and schools, and our collaborative work with municipalities to create Jail Diversion Programs that respond to addiction with treatment rather than jail, are at the cutting edge of the way we approach mental health in our state.
As we look to the future, we are more excited than ever at the agency’s potential for significant impact in our community. Continued partnerships with community stakeholders, health officials, and policy makers, help us to achieve our goal of providing a true continuity of supportive care to individuals and families that can transform, not only our clients, but the community as a whole.
Family Continuity is proud to be a member of and supports important Human Services and Advocacy organizations such as:
Focusing on individuals and families, we approach services in a way that builds on strengths and wellness. We embrace all people in their uniqueness to promote resiliency and support healthy lives.
We connect individuals and families to professional services and non-traditional resources in partnership with our colleage agencies, funders, and communities at large.
We believe in the inherent right of individuals and families to live, work, play and access services in their community. We advocate for equity to increase awareness, build trust, break down stereotypes, stigma and communication barriers, and build mutual respect and understanding of our differences. This is achieved through educating community and supporting individuals and families to be aware of their rights and ensure their voices are heard.
We innovate by engaging individuals, families and communities to identify gaps and develop creative solutions through services, such as our human service worker safety training and cultural broker program. Our professional, diverse staff is committed to those we serve and is set apart by our passion, spirit, and hope.
We uphold the dignity of all people and acknowledge their innate ability and courage to self-determine their transformative journey.
